Grapes are a low glycemic index, high fiber fruit which means that it is broken down slowly in the body. This allows for a slow and steady increase in blood sugar levels (if consumed in moderation), therefore making it diabetic friendly. Raisins, as a dried fruit, while high in fiber have a very high glycemic index which means that it will have the opposite effect on your blood sugar levels. This means that grapes are a far better choice for diabetics than raisins.

Depending on the type of diabetes you have and the stage you are in, your diabetes doctor will tell you if you can consume grapes and raisins. Grapes and raisins contain many free sugars, but they also have vitamins and minerals.

If consumed in small amounts, they are a good alternative to sweet foods for diabetics. Thus, the consumption of cookies and other sugary foods is avoided. But pay attention to the amounts!
