The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced that millions of people who claim Personal Independence Payment (PIP) will see a cost of living increase from April 2024. This benefit is designed to help with the extra costs that come with long-term mental or physical health conditions and disabilities.

PIP is the third most claimed DWP payment, with 3.4 million recipients. The majority of these, around 1.3 million people, receive PIP for psychiatric disorders. This includes conditions like anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, learning disabilities, autism and dementia.

Last year, those on PIP and eight other disability benefits received a £150 cost of living payment. However, many said it wasn’t enough. Campaigners have been calling for disabled people to get the same £900 package that’s going to those on income-based benefits, as BirminghamLive reports.

As the final instalment of £299 is being paid this month, the DWP pledged: “We will continue to support vulnerable people with the cost of living from April this year.” It has confirmed that PIP will get a 6.7 per cent boost for the next financial year, which begins on April 8, 2024. The benefit is paid every four weeks so claimants will see the rise at the end of their first four-weekly pay cycle after that date.

Here are the new weekly rates for PIP from April 2024:

Here are the new rates for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) for 2024-2025:

Daily Living Component Standard: £72.65 a week (up from £68.10)

Mobility Component Enhanced: £75.75 a week (up from £71.00)

These payments are made every four weeks, so in some months you might receive two payments. Here’s what you could get from April 2024:

1. Standard daily living only: £72.65 a week, £290.60 a month, £3,777.80 a year 2. Enhanced daily living only: £108.55 a week, £434.20 a month, £5,644.60 a year 3. Standard daily living plus standard mobility: £101.35 a week, £405.40 a month, £5,270.20 a year 6. Standard daily living plus enhanced mobility: £148.40 a week
