Overwatch 2’s Baptiste is in Desperate Need of The Mercy Treatment
- Baptiste is a top healer in Overwatch 2 with powerful abilities like healing projectiles and AOE healing.
- Unfortunately, he has received the least amount of new skins in Overwatch 2 out of any hero despite his popularity in competitive play.
- Overwatch 2 events in early 2024 are a perfect chance for Baptiste to get some much-needed new skins and love from the cosmetic team, as he could really benefit from something like Mercy’s constant skin drops.
Baptiste is one of Overwatch 2’s legacy healers who debuted in the original game. Players loved him immediately because of his massive healing potential with his right-click and abilities that make it a breeze to keep both himself and his allies alive. While his default design doesn’t stand out as much, he more than made up for it with some of his best skins – it’s just a shame that he isn’t getting the Mercy treatment in this department since the release of Overwatch 2.
Baptiste debuted in March 2019 to much fanfare, as he makes the main healer role more approachable. His right click is a projectile that offers instant AOE healing upon impact. Regenerative Burst gives quick AOE healing for himself and his allies, while his Immortality Field comes in clutch in keeping his team alive during hectic team fights. Baptiste’s high jump gets him out of sticky situations. For offensive assists, his ult and left-click burst gun all bring the hurt on enemies. The combat medic has the same skills in the sequel game. Baptiste also has a slightly new look in Overwatch 2, but that’s all, as there’s not much to fix when it comes to this hero. However, many may argue that he isn’t getting the love he deserves from the OW2 cosmetic design team.

Why Baptiste Needs the Mercy Treatment in Overwatch 2
Close
Mercy is a clear favorite by designers when it comes to skins, even in Overwatch 2. Mercy mains were showered with a bunch of great cosmetics like Infinite Seer, Zombie Doctor, Honey Bee, Jingle Belle, and Mystic Swan in Overwatch 2. She has yet to receive a Mythic skin, like Ana and Kiriko, but she has still received a lot of Epic and Legendary ones since OW2’s October 2022 release. Baptiste needs to get the same treatment soon, because he has the fewest skins of a hero from the original game.
Here are the skins that Baptiste has received in Overwatch 2 so far:
- Formalwear: This is a sleek skin that puts Baptiste in a white suit with gold accents and a pair of round glasses as an accessory, making him look like he’s about to strut the Met Gala’s red carpet.
- Bounty Hunter: Clearly inspired by The Mandalorian, this skin can be bought from the shop with 1900 credits. It’s a tasteful homage to the bounty hunters of the Star Wars universe, which fits Baptiste’s background as a former mercenary as well.
- Blue Steel: This is more or less a recolor of Baptiste’s default skin in OW2. Apart from the sleek blue and black details, the medical doctor also gets a cool pair of shades.
- Deluxe: Players received this cosmetic from the Season 3 Battle Pass. It’s just a red, blue, and gold recolor. It also has different textures, but the skin is not much to write home about.
Apart from receiving only a few skins since OW2’s release almost two years ago, only half of them actually look original. Sure, fans will get a lot of use out of Formalwear and Bounty Hunter, and his beautiful OW1 skin Funky Baptiste, along with Combat Medic and Tropical, appear in the store from time to time. However, everyone can agree that the Haitian healer is long overdue when it comes to new cosmetics, especially with it feeling as if Mercy receives a new one every single month.
Overwatch 2’s Early 2024 Events are Perfect Opportunities to Give Baptiste Some New Skins
Baptiste is in the top five when it comes to competitive usage in the support role, according to Overwatch 2 stats tracking website Overbuff. He’s frequently used in pro play as an aggressive main healer, too, which should be all the justification needed for more cosmetics. Overwatch’s anniversary is just around the corner, plus the Overwatch 2’s Champions Series Major is also coming up in May. These events are prime time for new skin drops, and Baptiste deserves to get some love.
