Elon Musk to visit Auschwitz in wake of antisemitism controversy: report

Elon Musk — who has had to fend off allegations of antisemitism lodged against him and his social media platform X — will reportedly visit the notorious Nazi death camp Auschwitz while attending a conference in Poland next week.

Musk is expected to be on a panel to discuss online antisemitism at the European Jewish Association’s annual conference in Krakow, Poland, according to Bloomberg News.

The two-day summit kicks off Sunday ahead of International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Jan. 27. A tour of Auschwitz, where an estimated 1.1 million Jews were exterminated, takes place on the second day of the conference.

Musk has yet to confirm whether he will go to the concentration camp, but had reportedly agreed to visit when he met with EJA leaders in Israel last September — just before Hamas’ deadly terrorist attack.

The EJA said that the conference will have “its primary focus honing in on the disconcerting surge of anti-Semitism in Europe that has been escalating since the 7th of October.”

More than 1,100 Israeli soldiers and civilians were killed after Hamas terrorists crossed the Israel-Gaza border and staged a widespread assault that took the country’s vaunted military by surprise. Another 150 were abducted, with more than 100 still being held hostage.

Israel’s military strikes in the Gaza Strip to root out Hamas have been been met with pro-Palestinian protests.

In November, Musk visited Israel to show solidarity with Israelis living in towns that were overrun by Hamas on Oct. 7.

The visit was made amid mounting backlash to an antisemitic post that repeated the trope that Jews were to blame for mass migration.

The X poster wrote that Jews were “coming to the realization that those hordes of minorities that support flooding their country don’t exactly like them too much.”

Musk, who acquired Twitter in late 2022 and rebranded it as X with the goal of allowing unfettered speech on the platform, backed the post as “the actual truth.”

Leading Jewish organizations such as the Anti-Defamation League assailed Musk, who has adamantly denied that he is antisemitic.

Weeks later, the ADL praised Musk after the mogul pledged to suspend X users who uttered phrases such as “decolonization” and “from the river to the sea” when commenting on Israel.

But Musk’s endorsement of the conspiracy theory as well as a Media Matters report which allegedly found pro-Nazi content appearing next to posts published by leading brands led to an advertising boycott.

Disney, one of the companies that halted advertising on X, drew Musk’s ire.

The X owner lashed out at Disney CEO Bob Iger at a business conference, telling his company and others who abandoned the platform to “go f–k yourself.”

X’s 2023 ad sales were projected to fall to about $2.5 billion, Bloomberg News reported last month.
