ENVIADO ESPECIAL / PARATY – A literatura, para o escritor Geovani Martins, não é apenas um meio para conquistar a cidadania. “Na verdade, é uma arma, uma forma de luta contra as limitações que a sociedade tenta me impor”, disse ele na tarde de sexta, 25, em sua mesa na 20ª Festa Literária Internacional de Paraty, a Flip, ao lado da americana Ladee Hubbard. “Arma contra ideias erradas, concebidas para desfavorecer negros, favelados.”

Sua trajetória explica esse ponto de vista. Aos 31 anos, Martins desfruta hoje da possibilidade de viver de literatura, depois de colecionar empregos diversos, como “homem placa” e atendente de lanchonete e de barraca de praia. Nascido em Bangu, no Rio, morou em comunidades até descobrir seu caminho ao frequentar as oficinas da Festa Literária das Periferias, a Flup. Foi a chance para burilar seu talento nato, que se tornou conhecido com o livro de contos O Sol na Cabeça, lançado em 2018 pela Companhia das Letras e logo traduzido para vários idiomas.

“É pela literatura que desenvolvo minhas obsessões, como a amizade, sempre presente em meus textos”, conta ele, que acaba de lançar o romance Via Ápia. “A amizade nasce do nada e logo ganha um tremendo significado na vida da gente, transformando-se em um pilar da sua existência.”

É por isso, explica Martins, que seus escritos são dominados por mais de um protagonistas, construindo uma memória coletiva muitas vezes pela oralidade, inspiração na literatura africana na qual a tradição é herdada via histórias contadas por gerações.

“Escrever Via Ápia foi uma possibilidade de me expressar sobre meu ofício: pude escrever com calma, de forma elaborada”, contou. “Tinha esse livro na cabeça há 10 anos, mas me faltavam ferramentas de expressão. Li autores africanos, me equipei até me sentir seguro para escrever.”

O romance acompanha cinco jovens que têm a vida abalada quando a polícia invade a Rocinha para instalar uma UPP. “A oralidade tem, novamente, uma importância fundamental assim como a figura materna, que aqui se divide entre o carinho e a porrada.”

Cracolândia

Na tenda da Flip, Geovani Martins levou o público ao delírio com suas considerações sinceras. Como sua opinião a respeito da legalização das drogas. “Um discurso abusivo tenta justificar que isso permitiria o acesso de playboys às drogas, mas isso já acontece normalmente”, argumentou o escritor, para quem a proibição é uma forma de o Estado se eximir de sua responsabilidade. “Cracolândias nascem a partir do descaso dos governos. E, se hoje o Brasil tem a terceira maior população carcerária do mundo, uma das causas principais é o descontrole das drogas.”
