In fact, such are the pressures not only to win silverware, but to perform at a top level weekly at Chiefs. That is often a burden so big, that it proves overwhelming to even the senior players that join the club. Now, imagine what it could do to a youngster, promoted from the academy with a big reputation? The latter seems to prove true to one Mduduzi Shabalala and according to The Citizen, he has been warned.

Shabalala needs to pull up his socks at Chiefs?

“Mdu is a top player. If you’ve ever seen him play in the development team you would agree with me. That is why he was promoted to the first team, he is very talented, and he was hungrier than now. He is so relaxed, and it’s a pity because once his contract ends he will just end up like Emmanuel Letlotlo. I know a lot of people think Chiefs don’t give these players advice, but they do. Mdu just needs to work hard and when he is given an opportunity to play he must show that he deserves it.” Said the source.

Shabalala made his Chiefs senior team debut at the backend of the 2021/22 season, but rose to prominence last season. He found himself more involved, either starting or coming as an impact player. The attacker also had a memorable Soweto derby to cap off the campaign. He made a total of 22 appearances last season, scoring four goals in the process. So far this season, he has played 11 times in all competitions, failing to produce a goal or assist.

Going into the second half of the season, Shabalala will be hoping for better fortunate at Chiefs.
