The old Parliament building was completed in 1927. It is 96 years old and was designed by British architects Sir Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker.

Government sources, per several media outlets, say that the old building will not be demolished. Then plan is for it to be “retrofitted” to provide more functional spaces for parliamentary events.

“The historic structure will be conserved, as it is an archaeological asset of the country,” sources said, according to an NDTV report. Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had in 2021 said that the old structure will be repaired and used for other activities.
