Josh Brown smashed 140 from just 57 balls in Big Bash ChallengerEnsured Brisbane Heat comfortably beat Adelaide StrikersBrown, 30, could now be offered T20 opportunities overseasWas recruited by Heat from Brisbane Club cricket competition
Big Bash breakout star Josh Brown has never attracted any interest from cashed up overseas T20 franchise teams – but that is set to change following his pulsating innings on Monday for Brisbane Heat against the Adelaide Strikers.
Brown, 30 – who makes cricket bats for a living – plundered an incredible 140 from just 57 balls at the top of the order to guide Darren Lehmann’s team into the final on Wednesday versus the Sydney Sixers.
His swashbuckling innings on the Gold Coast included 12 sixes and 10 boundaries, at a phenomenal strike-rate of 245.61.
Away from the pitch, sales of the $900 bats Brown makes for Cooper Cricket and then uses for the Heat are reportedly flying off the shelves.
Brown confirmed post game he is open to offers overseas, which would see him follow the path of Melbourne Renegades young gun Jake Fraser-McGurk.
Brisbane Heat star Josh Brown announced himself to T20 franchises around the world in emphatic fashion on Monday
The 30-year-old – recruited by the Heat from Brisbane Grade cricket – smashed 140 from just 57 balls to stun the Adelaide Strikers
Brown could get invitations from wealthy franchises to play in the International League T20 tournament in the UAE as a wildcard player
It could happen within days, with wildcard players now available for the International League T20 tournament in the United Arab Emirates.
The season in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai just got underway, with players like David Warner and recent Heat teammate Colin Munro involved.
Fraser-McGurk got a late call-up after his breakthrough Big Bash campaign, which also earned an Australian call-up.
Incredibly, Brown – recruited by the Heat from Brisbane grade team Northern Suburbs due to his clean hitting – could be next.
‘Absolutely, I’d be interested. If the opportunity came up I’d take it with both hands. I’ve just got to keep scoring runs,’ he told Fox Sports.
‘I’m still pinching myself. I couldn’t get the smile off my face when I reached my hundred. ‘It was pretty crazy really.’
Wednesday night’s BBL final against the Sydney Sixers at the SCG will be a different challenge for Brown, with a slower wicket predicted.
The man of the hour is wary of veteran left-arm spinner Steve O’Keefe, who no doubt will be determined to sign off his BBL career a winner.
‘He [O’Keefe] is still crafty in his old age. He changes his pace and arm angles…He’s got me out a few times, so hopefully I get on top of him before he does,’ Brown added.
