Ms McFarland had just got a new job and a new flat when she died

The family of a woman who died following a collision between her car and an ambulance has paid tribute to a “beautiful, caring and confident person”.

Lauren McFarland, 30, was fatally injured on the A66 near Burns Farm, east of Keswick, at about 08:50 GMT on 11 January.

Her family say she “touched the hearts of everyone she met with her happy and outgoing personality”.

Cumbria Police said the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) vehicle had no patients on board and was not on blue lights at the time of the collision.

‘Happy place’

Ms McFarland died at the scene of the collision.

Her family said: “She was a beautiful, caring and confident person who loved the outdoors and adventure.

“She had a new job she loved and had just returned from her dream adventure to the Himalayas and Everest Base Camp.

“She had recently moved into a new flat in a place she loved.

“She was, at last, in a happy place”

The paramedics travelling in the ambulance were not seriously injured.

Cumbria Police said they were investigating and have asked for anyone with information to report it.

NWAS said it was supporting the police with the investigation.
