Billy Gilmour makes decision on Chelsea future after Thomas Tuchel snub

Billy Gilmour is set to leave Chelsea amid interest from Brighton following his latest snub from Thomas Tuchel.

The Scotland international made a major breakthrough at Stamford Bridge under Frank Lampard and looked set to feature prominently under his successor following a series of eyecatching displays during the opening months of the German’s reign.

Gilmour subsequently caught the eye for his country during last summer’s European Championships but was subsequently sent out on loan to Norwich.

The 21-year-old struggled badly during his spell at Carrow Road, however, and was regularly booed by his own supporters and failed to force his way into a team that was relegated back to the Championship.

Gilmour had hoped to compete for a first team spot back at Chelsea this season but the writing was on the wall when he was asked to leave the first team squad in pre-season and train with the Under-23s.

Tuchel subsequently failed to offer Gilmour a squad number and the midfielder has now decided to leave the Blues in search of regular first team football, according to The Evening Standard.

Chelsea are also set to field interest in a number of their academy graduates with the likes of Conor Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah, Armando Broja and Callum Hudson-Odoi attracting interest from Premier League clubs.

The futures of that quartet could be determined by Chelsea’s transfer business during the closing weeks of the window, particularly with regards to Wesley Fofana and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Leicester City remain intent on retaining the French defender and are demanding a fee in the region of £80million, although the player is set to be determined to join Chelsea.

An opening offer, meanwhile, has been submitted for former Arsenal captain Aubameyang who only joined Barcelona six months ago.

The Catalan giants are, however, strapped for cash and the signing of Robert Lewandowski could render Aubameyang surplus to requirements.

Aubameyang worked with Tuchel during their time together at Dortmund and could offer a solution to Chelsea’s striker shortage with the club yet to replace either Romelu Lukaku or Timo Werner.
