The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to conduct its special ‘Young Scientist Programme’ or ‘YUVIKA’ for school children, aimed at imparting basic knowledge on space technology, science, and applications. Here’s all you need to know about this exciting opportunity.

YUVIKA is designed to introduce young students to emerging trends in space science and technology, aiming to inspire them to pursue careers in STEM fields. The programme aims to nurture the future leaders of the nation by instilling a passion for science and innovation.

IMPORTANT DATES

1. Announcement of Programme: February 15, 2024
2. Registration Starts: February 20, 2024
3. Registration Ends: March 20, 2024
4. Release of First Selection List: March 28, 2024
5. Release of Second Selection List: April 4, 2024
6. Reporting by Selected Students: May 12, 2024 (or as intimated)
7. YUVIKA Programme: May 13-24, 2024
8. Send-off Date for Selected Students: May 25, 2024

SELECTION CRITERIA

• Marks obtained in Class 8 exam: 50%
• Performance in the online quiz: 10%
• Participation in science fair (school / district / state & above level in last 3 years): 2/5/10%
• Rank in Olympiad or equivalent (1 to 3 rank in School / District / State & above level in last 3 years): 2/4/5%
• Winners of sports competitions (1 to 3 rank in School / District / State & above level in last 3 years): 2/4/5%
• Scout and Guides / NCC / NSS Member in last 3 years: 5%
• Studying in Village / Rural School located in Panchayat area: 15%

A minimum participation will be ensured from each State / UT. The programme is planned at seven centres of ISRO.

HOW TO REGISTER

1. Register on ISRO’s Antariksha Jigyasa Platform.
2. Verify your email.
3. Participate in the SpaceQuiz.
4. Fill in your personal and education details.
5. Scan and upload attested copies of certificates.
6. Generate your certificate for verification.
7. Review all entries carefully before submitting the application.
