Blind Date: Robyn & Bronson

Robyn, 28, says:

I was really nervous to begin with – I was literally shaking. I ended up arriving slightly before he did and, to be honest, I was relieved when I saw him. He was a really good-looking guy and I think that was something I was nervous most about was rocking up and not being attracted to the other person. I feel like I am quite picky so knowing nothing about him beforehand was just super nerve-wracking.

He was lovely, a very kind person and we had plenty to chat about. It was all light conversation, just getting to know each other, not really flirty or anything like that. He overall just seemed really nice.

We had a bit in common. We found out we basically grew up in the same area, which I liked because he got a lot of the references when I was talking about specific places. We spoke about travel, he has done quite a bit of solo travel which I appreciate. He likes to keep active, which we had in common. He loves playing golf, which made me cringe slightly because my parents love golf also but no. He is quite hands-on with his hobbies, he’s into building cars, gardening and stuff like that.

My boss was the one who suggested I should apply for Blind Date. I’m like the only single person in the office so everyone loves to hear about dating stories and I hadn’t given them a good story in a while so this was the perfect opportunity. They joked about coming to the restaurant to spy but thankfully they did not, but they will likely be the first to read the article when it goes to print.

We ended up staying at the restaurant until closing time. Conversation flowed well and there weren’t many awkward silences or anything like that. We didn’t discuss another date but he did ask for my number afterwards so I think that might be a good sign. I’d say we both had a good time so we will see if anything happens from here. The date was very good but it was still kind of very friendly vibes as well. I would need to give it another go to truly figure out how I feel.

Bronson, 27, says:

Dating can be a bit of a struggle because of my work plus I’ve purchased a home with a bit of land that needs a lot of work so I can easily get lost in that on my time off. At the time of applying for Blind Date, I had a bit of time off at work and I ended up seeing the ad pop up on Facebook and I thought why not try this and see what happens.

I definitely enjoyed the date. I was a bit nervous at the start but I guess anyone would be. She was really nice and easy to talk to. I was most nervous about having no idea who I was going to be meeting up with. When I walked in and I was looking around, I didn’t even know where to start, it could have been anyone. I arrived just after her – I wasn’t late though, I was definitely early.

As I said, Robyn was really nice, she was good-looking and a genuinely kind person. I wouldn’t say we bonded over a lot. I think it can be tricky on the first date because you’re under a bit of pressure, especially given this one was a blind date. I think we more connected as friends if that makes sense. It was overall just a very friendly conversation, I don’t know how to describe it any other way.

I wouldn’t say there was a spark between us. It just felt like I was getting dinner with a friend and sort of catching up. There weren’t too many awkward moments, maybe some here and there, but nothing like what I was expecting there to be — maybe just a pause here and there.

We were able to share some laughs and stories but she didn’t really go into a lot of detail about herself and what she does. We mainly just talked about people we knew, which isn’t a bad thing, it just meant that I didn’t get to know her well and maybe that played into why it felt like just a friendly catch-up and not romantic.

We stayed until closing then exchanged numbers and a few messages since. I’m not 100 per cent sure if we will catch up again. It was really nice to get out and meet someone new though.
