A GPS server issue impacted both Amtrak and New Jersey Transit service in and out of New York City for hours on Friday morning.
By noon, Amtrak and New Jersey Transit service had resumed, but commuters were advised to expect delays.
Amtrak said the issue was due to a communication issue with signals and switches.
Officials with Amtrak said just before 9:30 a.m. that all trains operating between Philadelphia and New York Penn Station were holding until further notice.
Meanwhile, NJ Transit suspended all rail service into and out of Penn Station New York due to the signal issues.
Just after noon officials announced all service on the Northeast Corridor, Raritan Valley Line and North Jersey Coast Line had resumed in both directions but was subject to delays.
The impact of the suspensions wreaked havoc on the Friday morning commute.
“It’s been a horror, they don’t even tell you, I was on the train this morning, we sat there about 45 minutes and they said the train was out of service,” one commuter told Eyewitness News.
Other commuters expressed frustration with the lack of announcements or information given to passengers who were left in the dark during the suspensions and delays.
