New cars are becoming increasingly expensive here in South Africa, but the good news is there are still a few brands that offer a fair amount of choice and affordability.
We compiled a list of car brands that have at least five models in their line-up that cost less than R400,000.
Suzuki was the clear winner with ten cars on offer – including hatchbacks, crossovers, sedans, and an MPV.
Toyota came in second with seven vehicles, meaning all five of Toyota’s cheapest cars made it onto the list, as did the ever-popular Corolla Cross and Hilux models.
Finally, in third place, are Renault and Hyundai – each of whom has five cars on offer.
Both brands offer a range of hatchbacks and crossovers that you can buy for less than our listed cut-off price.
This includes small hatchbacks like the Kwid and Atos – both of which can be purchased for less than R200,000.
Another comparison is between the Duster and Creta, representing good entry-level options for those interested in the crossover vehicle category.
