Delivery Startup Dingdong.ph Ventures Into the Motorcycle Taxi-Hailing Service

Dingdong.ph, a delivery service by Filipino actor Dingdong Dantes, has now ventured into the motorcycle ride-hailing business. It competes against motorcycle taxi services like MoveIt, which is under Grab; and Angkas.

Filipino startup Dingdong.ph, which is powered by RiderKo, started out at the height of the pandemic in September 2020. It initially focused on two services: Dingdong Delivery, which caters to both on-demand and pre-booked delivery requirements; and Dingdong Eats, which lets users get their favorite treats via delivery.

The homegrown business also teamed up with NGO YesPinoy Foundation Inc. in August 2021 to professionalize its freelance riders. This meant that partner rides get access to government contributions like SSS, PhilHealth, and PAGIBIG, as well as other benefits like HMO, life insurance, and accident insurance.

Dingdong Hatid, the new ride-hailing service, was officially launched on April 7 with a grand motorcade from Pasay City to Quezon City, starting at 6 a.m. This was followed by a three-day trial run that offered free rides all over Metro Manila from April 8 to 10. It now has a network of 100,000 registered riders with approximately 7,000 active riders daily.

“Dito sa Dingdong, ang advocacy namin, baliktarin ang tatsulok, priority ang rider, pasahero, empleyado, hanggang sa top management. Iibahin natin ‘yung sistema kung paano pinatatakbo ang MC taxi. Dapat kami ‘yung mag-serbisyo sa inyo. Hindi niyo kami kailangan intindihin, dahil obligasyon namin na intindihin namin kayong lahat,” Head of Operations Rap Brondial said during the motorcade.
