Qatar Unveils Its First Self-Driving E-Bus: Join a Demo Week!

Qatar’s Ministry of Transport and Mowasalat (Karwa) have launched Qatar’s maiden self-driving electric bus (E-Bus) and are inviting the public to experience it firsthand during a demo week.

This initiative underscores Qatar’s commitment to embracing cutting-edge technology while prioritizing safety and environmental responsibility in its transportation sector.

From February 16th to February 22nd, 2024, citizens can hop on the self-driving E-Bus daily from 8 am to 4 pm, embarking on a journey through Qatar Foundation’s Education City.

The bus will follow a loop with 9 significant stops, traversing from Qatar National Library Metro Station to Northwestern University in Qatar. Passengers will have the freedom to explore the area’s key attractions at their own pace, with an onboard expert available to address any inquiries regarding the bus’s functionality and its positive environmental impact.

The introduction of the autonomous E-Bus marks a pivotal advancement in merging technology with environmental consciousness. Powered by clean electric energy, the bus operates emission-free, aligning with Qatar’s objectives for a sustainable future. Equipped with state-of-the-art onboard sensors, high-definition cameras, lasers, and ultrasonic radars, the E-Bus sets a new standard in transportation safety and efficiency.

Officials have indicated plans to conduct demonstrations in additional locations in the near future.

The demo week aims to foster community engagement, particularly among school and university students, laying the groundwork for future projects geared towards promoting environmentally conscious transportation practices. As Qatar paves the way for a greener future, initiatives like the self-driving E-Bus represent significant strides towards achieving sustainability goals.
