HD Spikers bounce back from loss with win vs Foxies

The Cignal HD Spikers bounced back from a loss by beating the Farm Fresh Foxies in dominant fashion, 25-10, 25-14, 25-15, in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) 2024 All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig on Thursday, April 4.

After a grueling five-set loss against Creamline, Jovelyn Gonzaga used the heartbreak to fuel her game against the Foxies as she scored 17 points built on 14 attacks, two blocks, and an ace.

Cignal also put in the work in the service line after registering 10 service aces compared to only one ace by Farm Fresh.

Owning the first two frames in the match, Cignal made a 12-3 rally capped by Jovelyn Fernandez’s kill block, and Vanie Gandler’s powerful crosscourt kill to make it 23-14.

Gandler once more tried to go for the hammer but she committed an attack error to give Farm Fresh a point.

Fernandez used her smarts and sent Cignal to match point via an off-speed. Chinnie Arroyo of Farm Fresh went for the down-the-line kill but the margin for error was too small as her hit sailed outside, giving the HD Spikers the 25-15 victory.

Gel Cayuna made 18 excellent sets as Vanie Gandler finished with 10 points and Ces Molina added 11 points.

No Farm Fresh players scored in double-digits as Arroyo only had eight points and Trisha Tubu netted six markers.

Cignal is now tied with Petro Gazz and Chery Tiggo at 5-2 as the Foxies fell to a 2-5 win-loss slate.
