M&S shoppers praise 'lightweight' spring jacket that's 'great for layering'

M&S shoppers are snapping up a new in stock jacket as a “great extra layer” for spring. The jacket comes in four colours and customers said it’s a good alternative to hoodies and gilets.

The £35 Recycled Thermowarmth Quilted Jacket is available in medium beige, black, dark blue and faded khaki. The retailer says it is “water-repellent” and “designed to keep you protected from the elements”, with lining in the padding for a cosy feel.

The jacket has earned glowing reviews so far. Reviewer fundtar said: “This is exactly what I needed, a lightweight jacket and it is warm looks nice” while Poppy20Yoga wrote: “I am really pleased with this jacket. It is lightweight and great for layering.”

Jan3y said: “I bought the black version of this and can honestly say it’s worth every penny! It’s one of the best things I’ve ever bought! Just a bit more stylish than a cardigan and absolutely great for wearing under a sleeveless gilet – or under any coat when you think you’ll need a bit more warmth. Hoping to buy in at least one other colour!”

Doonie commented: “A lovely change from fleeces and gilets. In black, looks smart, and certainly adds a layer without being bulky. Easy to sit down in/drive” and another recent purchaser, Nettywiz, said: “I have bought two of these jackets they are so comfortable and cosy ideal to just throw on over a sweater or tee definitely recommend.”

LillianG said: “Excellent jacket. Good for an extra layer under another coat in these freezing conditions. I sized down, as it was a generous fit. Will also be good in the spring and autumn as a thin layer” and Katdav’s verdict was: “Nice jacket for the cooler days of spring. Sleeves are a little bit wide but otherwise very pleased with it.”

Some reviewers said they felt the jacket was a little oversized for them and they had to return it for another size. And others said it was missing a key detail from the product description on the M&S website.

Abu said: “I bought this on Tuesday and very pleased with it but, missing the “secure zipped front pocket” as mentioned in the product description” while Firenze4 got a refund, saying: “Returned as it did not fit my requirements and also because there is no secure pocket as mentioned in the description!”

Lilly1944 said: “Loved this jacket , it came up very large so will return it and then order size smaller.”

There are plenty of alternatives to the M&S jacket online and on the high street. Cider has the V-neck Quilted Geometric Pocket Puffer Jacket in white, which was £24 at the time of writing. Mountain Warehouse is stocking the Hinter + Hobart Harlow Womens Short Quilted Jacket in khaki, which was reduced to £50 in its New Year sale. And if you’re in the market for a longer jacket but love the quilted look, you could try V by Very’s Lightweight Diamond Quilted Longline Coat in black, currently £52.
