The Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has warned MPs against lodging in cheap hotels in Rwanda ahead of the East African Community (EAC) games in Kigali.
According to Among, all MPs participating in the games have been given up to $720 equivalent to sh2.7m as allowance per day to cater for their expenses including accommodation.
“I want to encourage MPs that as you go there, represent Uganda well in terms of discipline. I am giving you money, US$ 720 per day and you go and sleep in a room for US$20, that is unacceptable for a Member of Parliament, members go and represent us well, represent us well, don’t go and live in a miserable way,” Among said.
Among said legislators sleeping in cheap hotels, taints the image of Parliament, but most importantly Uganda.
The games are set to start on December 8, 2023 and end on December 19, 2023. A number of MPs have been selected to take part in the games.
