Classic: Eben Etzebeth’s brilliant banter with Siya Kolisi

Etzebeth and Kolisi are not only two iconic Springbok teammates, but they are also great friends who briefly played together at the Sharks.

After the World Cup, though, Kolisi completed his move from the Sharks to French club Racing 92, while Etzebeth returned to action with the Sharks.

In a brilliant bit of social media banter, Kolisi responded to a post from Etzebeth as he celebrated his return to the Sharks, but the big lock was having none of it: “If you not in my team, I don’t want you in my comments!” he joked.

Kolisi responded by stating: “I’m sorry I was just passing by couldn’t (help) myself ! Saying hello from the other side!”

After a few weeks out of action following the Rugby World Cup, Kolisi returned to the field on Sunday as he made his debut for French club Racing 92.

By all accounts, Kolisi produced a solid performance on debut as Racing beat La Rochelle 32-10 in Paris, and then after the match he could be seen celebrating with a new set of fans who clearly have already fallen in love with the Springbok captain.

Would Siya Kolisi go into politics after rugby?

Siya satisfied with debut

After playing 54 minutes at openside flanker as Racing claimed their sixth win after just eight games of the season to go to the summit of the Top14 standings, Kolisi expressed his delight at being back in action.

“I was quite nervous before the game because your reputation and all that you do can only take you so far,” Kolisi told reporters.

“The guys only respect you by what you do on the field and that’s what I wanted to do, play well and add value with what I do on the field.

“It’s going to be tough for me to stamp my authority but I’m going to give my best,” he added.
