OpenAI is bringing another challenge for Google, it is apparently working on a Google Search-like product

In the past couple of years, OpenAI has undoubtedly stirred up the industry. It didn’t just spark discussions about AI, it compelled tech giants like Google and Apple to develop their own AI products. ChatGPT stands as a prime example of how OpenAI accelerated progress in the tech industry, if not outright revolutionising its direction. Google had the most significant response to ChatGPT, resulting in Google Bard, now known as Gemini. And it looks like OpenAI is now going for a share of Google’s pie. The ChatGPT-makers are working on a Google Search-like web search product, according to a report by The Information.Â

The report reveals that the web search product will be similar to Google Search. There is also a rumour that it will be partially powered by Bing. However, at this point, it is unclear if this will be a standalone app for web search, or if it will be integrated inside of ChatGPT. Although some reports suggest that there is a possibility that the web search product could be available through the ChatGPT Plus model for paid subscribers. However, it’s also important to note that most of this is based on speculation and OpenAI has yet to confirm any of it.Â

Given that Microsoft is one of the largest investors in OpenAI, the rumour about the latter’s supposed web search product being powered by Bing could be seen as another strategic move by the Satya Nadella-led company to promote more AI products.Â

Having said that, while it would be fascinating to see how OpenAI would integrate the said web search product, and how it will shape the way we search in future, taking a piece off Google’s plate may not be an easy thing. Google rules the market when it comes to Search. As per a DemandSage report that was released last month, Google handles a staggering volume of search queries: 99,000 every second, 5.94 million every minute, 356.4 million every hour, and a whopping 8.55 billion every day. This equates to approximately 8.5 billion searches daily and an estimated 2 trillion searches worldwide annually.
