Alex de Minaur and British girlfriend Katie Boulter have been spotted shopping in Melbourne following the Aussie’s heartbreaking loss at the Australian Open on Sunday night.

‘The Demon’ fought back from losing the first set to snag a two-sets-to-one lead at Rod Laver Arena and appeared destined to kick on as a frustrated and emotional Andrey Rublev waged a verbal war on himself.

But the brilliant Russian came home with a wet sail to level proceedings then, as de Minaur crumbled, put the foot down in the fifth set to win 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-7 (4-7) 6-3 6-0.

De Minaur was visibly upset after the match, being pictured in the players’ gym being consoled and embraced by Boulter.

On Monday afternoon, the glamour couple were spotted on Melbourne’s Chapel Street as they stepped out to do some shopping.

Boulter sparked rumours the couple might be engaged by wearing a large ring on her ring finger during De Minaur’s Australian Open match on Sunday

The pair, who have been described as ‘the Kate and Wills of the Australian tennis season’, looked relaxed as they walked down the street, stopping occasionally to sign autographs and pose for photos.

De Minaur wore a baggy blue hoodie with a black cap, grey trousers, while Boulter opted for a green hoodie and navy leggings.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted a large ring on Boulter’s ring finger while she was in the player’s box on Sunday night, leading some to believe that the couple might now be engaged.

The British number one has been the subject of huge interest in Australia because of her longstanding relationship with De Minaur, who has become the first man from the host nation to make the world’s top ten since Lleyton Hewitt.

Since arriving before Christmas she has become accustomed to more attention and getting the paparazzi treatment more than she might even get around the time of Wimbledon.

‘It’s definitely been fun to be a part of because it’s been a little bit of a circus, but a good circus,’ said Boulter.

‘I can’t walk down the street with him separately. I feel like I’m sharing him with everyone, which isn’t a bad thing.

‘I think it’s awesome that he’s getting the attention that he really does deserve. He’s put the work in for it. He’s playing some of the best tennis of his life.

‘It really does fill me with a lot of pride to actually watch him at this moment because I know everything that he’s been through, how hard and how strong he is with everything he does.

‘I think he’s really rubbed off on me in so many different ways: the way he holds himself, the way he works.

‘Having his expertise on the side, it’s great for me because it’s a support. It’s someone that I can talk to about anything, including everything to do with my career.

‘To have that extra support, it does make a huge difference and I feel like it’s showing.’

De Minaur took to social media on Monday and admitted how much he was still hurting from his loss to Rublev.

‘That one hurts. Thanks Australia for the unconditional love,’ De Minaur wrote.

De Minaur’s friends and fans were quick to post messages of love and encouragement.

‘You’re amazing,’ wrote actor Rebel Wilson.

‘You’re a legend mate. Only bigger things to come,’ wrote John Millman.
