dropped from indian test team for england series, star fast bowler shardul thakur picks up 6 wickets in ranji trophy – watch
Star Indian pacer Shardul Thakur, who was dropped from the Indian Test team for the ongoing five-match series against England, was on fire for his domestic side Mumbai in their Ranji Trophy Elite Group B against Assam on Friday (February 16). During the first day’s play of the match, which is being played at Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC in Mumbai, the 32-year-old pacer picked up six wickets for 21 runs in 10.1 overs.
Thanks to his super show in the first innings, 41-time Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai managed to dismiss Assam for just 84 runs in 32.1 overs during their seventh and last group stage match of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024 season.

Shardul was part of the Indian Test team that faced South Africa in a two-match Test series. He played in the Boxing Day Test at SuperSport Park in Centurion as well. But after he failed to do much with the ball, he was ignored for the ongoing series at home against England. In his place, the BCCI selection committee, which is led by Ajit Agarkar, preferred Mukesh Kumar, Avesh Khan, and Akash Deep as pacers, along with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.
The ongoing match between Mumbai and Assam is Shardul’s second match in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024 season. In his first match against Chhattisgarh, he was unable to take any wicket.
During the first day’s play of the match between Mumbai and Assam, Shardul picked up his first wicket on the third ball of his second over and got another on the fourth ball of the third over. In his fifth over, he caught and bowled Assam skipper Denish Das for an individual score of five runs from 15 balls. Thakur, who has 31 wickets in 11 Tests for India, dismissed Kunal Sarma and Sunil Lachit to complete his five-wicket haul and then removed Dibakar Johri on the first ball of his 11th over to bring an end to Assam’s innings.
At the close of the first day’s play, Shardul was batting for Mumbai during the hosts first inning and was unbeaten on two runs from six balls.
