Orlando Pirates make decision on Makhaula’s future

Orlando Pirates have reportedly made a decision on the future of midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula whose current deal expires in June.

According to iDiski Times, Pirates have triggered a one-year option they had on Makhaula’s contract, meaning the midfield anchor will stay on until June 2025.

There were already concerns around Makhaula’s future at Pirates given his limited game time under Jose Riveiro.

However, the tough-tackling midfielder appears to still be in Riveiro’s plans beyond the current campaign although he’s further down in the pecking order.

As things stand, Makhaula is playing second fiddle to both Thabang Monare and Miguel Timm in the Pirates midfield.

And for that reason, Makhaula has only managed 14 appearances across all competitions since his arrival from AmaZulu in January 2022.

Nonetheless, the Randfontein-born player is more determined to fight for his place in the Pirates team hence he will be staying until 2025.

“Orlando Pirates have extended the stay of midfielder Makhelene Makhaula despite his lack of game-time, iDiski Times has learnt.

“Information received by this publication confirmed that Pirates exercised the option on Makhaula’s contract and he will stay at Orlando Stadium until June 2025.”
