Brad Pitt fans spot fascinating similarity between DOZENS of his on-screen characters - as they question if actor uses quirky habit to try and 'add depth and humanity' to his roles

Brad Pitt, 60, is known to chow down on some food in many of his filmsObservant Reddit users and film enthusiasts pointed out the actor's habit Fans suggest it's because his jawline looks good or makes his characters casual

He’s a Hollywood heartthrob with many highly acclaimed films under his belt but there’s one thing Brad Pitt is known for maybe even more than his acting – his on-camera eating.

Eagle-eyed fans have noticed an interesting habit in the Academy Award winning actor’s performances and the characters he plays – they love to be nibbling on food.

‘I’ve noticed something interesting and a bit quirky about Pitt’s characters in many of his movies: he’s often seen eating,’ a Reddit user posted Movies subreddit.

‘From snacking in Ocean’s Eleven to chomping on something in Fight Club, it seems like Pitt’s characters have a penchant for food,’ they mused, pointing out some of his more iconic food-orientated roles.

The Reddit user continued asking if there was a specific reason behind the eating habit and he’s not the first, with Insider reporting that Pitt has eaten in more than 60 movies he has appeared in.

‘Is it a personal choice from Pitt to add depth to his roles, or maybe directors see him as more relatable or human when he’s munching on something?’ they questioned.

‘Has Brad Pitt or any directors commented on this habit? I’m curious to hear your thoughts and if anyone has any insights or theories on this.’

And it turns out the post resonated with plenty of film fans.

‘Making eating look good and cool is just a weird talent that he has,’ one user wrote. ‘It’s a bad look for almost everybody, but it works for him, so he just keeps doing it.’

‘It’s the jawline. Flexes the right muscles,’ another declared.

Some theories suggests that Pitt, 60, chooses to eat in scenes because it makes his characters look more casual and natural, also noting while other actors have mastered ‘busywork,’ like smoking, few have nailed down realistic eating.

‘Brad Pitt eating in his movies has become a bit of a running joke among fans,’ someone else commented.

‘In interviews, Pitt has mentioned that eating helps him keep busy during takes and adds a layer of authenticity to the character he’s portraying. Moreover, directors might use these moments as a way to show a character’s nonchalance or to add a humorous touch to a scene.

‘It’s also been noted that Pitt is very fit and thus, seeing him eat on screen can be a way to humanize his otherwise unattainably perfect characters. It’s definitely a unique trait that has contributed to his signature style in film!’

The actor himself opened up about his habit on chowing down on-screen, saying sometimes it does lean into the character. He used his character, Rusty, in the Ocean’s Eleven films.

‘I like to busy myself, I’m a grazer by nature,’ the actor explained to Movie Web in a 2023 interview, adding the Ocean’s movies were an intentional character choice.

‘There was actually a method to that because [his character] was always on the run, always on the move, I figured he could never sit down and have a proper meal.’

Pitt’s food acting isn’t a recent observation, with a Reddit post from more than five years ago suggesting a correlation between films where the famous actor consumes 200+ calories making more money and having a higher averaged critic and audience score, in comparison to his movies where he eats less or nothing.

‘He has consumed 82.5 percent of all his calories in the 1990s and 2000s. His 2010 eating has fallen off,’ the Reddit user added.

‘I guess critics and audiences like watching him eat (no way to prove this).’

The user pointed out the seasoned actor has variations of eating too, listing some examples.

‘Ocean’s trilogy – Cool eating; Moneyball – Stress eating; Meet Joe Black – Curious eating; Interview With the Vampire – Very hungry; eating Kalifornia – Gross eating; Seven Years in Tibet – I’ll eat anything eating,’ they listed.

‘I have a feeling that and are the primary reasons why people think Brad Pitt is always eating onscreen.

‘The eating in Ocean’s Eleven is truly excessive and I kinda love it.’

They continued: ‘Pitt’s commitment to shoveling food in his face is a lot of fun and I like how it continues on through the successful trilogy.

‘Also, Moneyball gave us the visual of Pitt shoveling an entire Twinkie into his mouth.’
