McLure Hotel’s permits to operate suspended indefinitely by health department
Wheeling, W.Va. (WTRF) – The McLure House Hotel was closed on Wednesday by the Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department.
Administrator Howard Gamble tells 7NEWS that the McLure’s permits to operate have been suspended indefinitely .
We spoke to the manager of the McLure, who tells us that on Wednesday afternoon staff began to smell gas. They eventually traced that to the boiler.
The Wheeling Fire Department responded. As a result of the boiler issue, the building’s water system was also affected. This led the health department to take action.
We’re told that the building is still structurally sound, but the hotel cannot take guests and the restaurant cannot operate. The manager of the McLure says all the veterans staying there with Helping Heroes are out, but they are unsure what to do with the other tenants living in the building. They tell us that they’ve called around to other hotels in the area but so far no one has taken them.
The McLure’s manager also tells us that the building’s owner is currently in California trying to sell it.
We’re working to get more details so stay with 7NEWS for updates.
