The Galaxy Z Flip 5 might change your perspective on Samsung’s Flip series. Until now, the biggest complaint regarding Flip phones is that the outer screen does not offer that much functionality. And the biggest reason behind that is that the external display is pretty small in size. Even the last Flip phone, the Galaxy Z Flip 4, had a 1.9 inches AMOLED screen.

Well, things might change for the Flip series, starting with the Galaxy Z Flip 5. According to Ross Young, a display expert and tech tipster, the Flip 5 will come with significant upgrades. And the tweet he shared through subscriber-only tweet gives a hint regarding how significant the upgrades are going to be.

Galaxy Z Flip 5 Is Tipped to Come With a Larger External Screen

As the tweet is subscriber-only, you might not be able to read the tweet. But the tweet basically stated that the next generation of Galaxy Z Flip would feature a cover display that will be three inches across in terms of size. In other words, the external display will be much larger than the 1.9 inches screen found on the Z Flip 4.

What Difference Will a Large Cover Display Make?

The current cover display that is present on the Galaxy Z Flip 4 can only do a handful of useful things. Yes, it makes it easier to view notifications and can act like a photo viewfinder for the rear cameras. But it is not capable of running full-sized apps due to its size.

However, with an external display that is three-inch in size, the new iteration of the Galaxy Z Flip might be able to run most of the apps properly. In simpler words, you might be able to do more than just see notifications and yourself on the cover display of the Z Flip 5.

What Other Upgrades Can You Expect From the Galaxy Z Flip 5?

According to Ross Young, the display is not the only thing that will see a change in the Z Flip 5. Young said that Samsung is also working on a new hinge design, which is about to be introduced with the Galaxy Z Flip 5. This new hinge design will supposedly make the seam in between the display make less noticeable, which is a thing that is keeping a lot of people away from foldable devices.

Creases on the foldable screens are something that is currently avoidable due to the design of the screens. However, anything that can hide the seam less obnoxious is genuinely something to look forward to.

In addition to that, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is said to be built with lighter materials. This might eventually make the phone capable of utilizing a wide crease, which will not be as deep as the one found on the Z Fold 4. Samsung might also prioritize adding better cameras on the Z Fold 5. However, if there is a large cover display on the outside, Z Flip 5 might not come with better cameras.

How Credible Is the Tip?

So, last year, Ross Young stated that the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is going to come with a larger cover screen. And as we all know, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 has the same 1.9 inches screen found in the Z Flip 3. And this might make you wonder whether you should actually expect a display upgrade on the next Z Flip phone.

Well, you should take things with a grain of salt. This is a common scenario for all the rumors that pass along regarding big-brand products. In fact, in some cases, even some of the big announcements from the brands do not see the light of day. Take the Apple AirPower, for example.
