We are less than two weeks from Day 1 of the 2024 NFL draft, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter is doubling down on the idea that the Washington Commanders are the likeliest destination for top quarterback prospect Jayden Daniels.
Schefter has previously reported that signs continue to point towards the Commanders taking the reigning Heisman Trophy winner with the No. 2 overall pick in the draft. The quarterback-needy Patriots obviously have a vested interest as well at No. 3 on the draft board. If the Commanders draft Daniels, that would likely mean Maye is going to the Patriots.
When appearing on “The Trap or Dive Podcast,” Schefter told Commanders fans they could go ahead and start buying Daniels jerseys.
“I think you can go and get those Jayden Daniels jerseys,” said Schefter.
On paper, Daniels seems like the better match for Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury’s offense. That still doesn’t make it an easy decision for Washington, who would be passing up Drake Maye.
The standout quarterback from North Carolina possibly has the highest ceiling of any quarterback on the draft board. It’s a roll of the dice either way for the Commanders.
The same could be said for the Patriots, who will be lying in wait to potentially take whatever quarterback is left on the board.
