PETALING JAYA: Kedah Pakatan Harapan chief Mahfuz Omar and former Amanah secretary-general Dr Hatta Ramli have been appointed Amanah vice-presidents.

Mahfuz is a former Pokok Sena MP while Hatta, a former MP for Lumut and Kuala Krai, is a senator.

At an Amanah central committee meeting today, former Permatang Pasir assemblyman Faiz Fadzil was also appointed secretary-general while Norhayati Bidin was named the party’s new deputy secretary-general.

Other key appointments include Hulu Langat MP Sany Hamzan as election director, Pulai MP Suhaizan Kaiat as human resource development director, Pandan Indah assemblyman Izham Hashim as treasurer, and former Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad as communications director.

Those appointed today were chosen from the party’s 27-member central committee voted in on Dec 24, during which Mohamad Sabu retained his position as Amanah president.

In a statement, Faiz said they comprised a mix of “experienced and young leaders”.

He said state chairmen will be appointed at the upcoming Amanah national meeting after sufficient written notice is given to every branch across the country to name suitable and qualified candidates.

“These candidates will be considered and decided upon by the president and the central committee,” he said.

Faiz said today’s meeting approved a “strategic framework” to further develop the party based on the principles of trust, justice, and mercy for all.

On Dec 24, Mujahid Yusof Rawa was also appointed deputy president. The post was previously held by Salahuddin Ayub, who died after undergoing surgery for brain haemorrhage on July 23.

Health minister Dzulkefly Ahmad was promoted as a new vice-president, alongside former Selangor executive councillor Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud and deputy defence minister Adly Zahari.

Agriculture and food security minister Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu, has led the party since it was established in 2015.
