According to notices posted by the company, Costco has voluntarily recalled five products due to potential Listeria contamination. The warehouse retailer joins the likes of Trader Joe’s, which also issued a recall on several items made with ingredients linked to the ongoing FDA investigation into the Listeria outbreak involving Rizo Lopez Foods, Inc. So far, the outbreak has been linked to 26 total illnesses including 23 hospitalizations and 2 deaths.
Which Costco Products Are Included in the Recall?
The five products being recalled by Costco either contain cotija cheese or crema, both of which were manufactured by Rizo Lopez Foods, Inc. and may have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. These are the five products included in the recall:
- Southwest Chicken Wrap with Sauce (Item #29433): sold at the deli between Oct. 27, 2023, and Feb. 6, 2024.
- Chicken Street Taco Kit (Item #11545): sold at the deli between Jan. 25, 2024 and Feb. 6, 2024.
- Rojo’s 6 Layer Dip (Item #1345308): sold between Dec. 27, 2023 and Feb. 6, 2024. Items with the “Use By” date of 3/22/24 or earlier are included.
- Don Pancho Cilantro Lime Crema 2-pack (Item #1341779): sold between Jan. 19, 2024 and Feb. 6, 2024. Items with a “Best By” date between 3/21/24 and 4/4/24 are included.
- Don Pancho Crema Trio Pack (Item #1796365): sold between Jan. 17, 2024 and Feb. 6, 2024. Items with a “Best By” date between 3/11/24 and 3/26/24 are included.

What To Do if You Have Any Recalled Costco Products
If you purchased any of items included in Costco’s recall, the company urges you not to consume them and return them to your local store for a full refund. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also warns that Listeria can live in the refrigerator and can be transferred to other foods and surfaces, so it’s important to clean thoroughly after removing any potentially contaminated items.
Listeria infection symptoms may start as soon as the same day as consumption or as late as ten weeks after consumption. Mild symptoms of the infection include fever, nausea, tiredness, vomiting, and diarrhea, and more severe symptoms can include confusion, convulsions, stiff neck, and loss of balance. It is most likely to affect at-risk groups such as pregnant people, infants, adults over 65, and those with weakened immune systems. If you have symptoms, call your healthcare provider immediately.
Any inquiries about this latest recall can be directed to Costco by calling 800-774-2678 or going online to the customer service portal at https://customerservice.costco.com.
