Possible Side Effects

  • Eating watermelon in excessive amounts can lead to some intestinal discomfort. Watermelon is a high FODMAP fruit and when consumed in large portions it can cause symptoms like bloating, constipation, diarrhea and pain.

Quantity Recommendation

  • The recommendation for fresh fruits is to consuming four servings per day. A serving of watermelon is a half-inch thick wedge of sliced watermelon. It is important to consume watermelon according to the recommendations, since watermelon contains fructose, that is a natural sugar, and the fruit has a high glycemic index, therefore if it is consumed an excessive amount this may have an impact on the blood sugar level.
