Grecia.- Turquía convoca al embajador griego para pedir explicaciones por el despliegue militar en el Egeo

El Ministerio de Exteriores turco ha convocado este lunes al embajador griego en Turquía, Christodoulos Lazaris, para pedirle explicaciones por el despliegue de vehículos blindados estadounidenses en las islas de Lesbos y de Samos.

En la nota, recogida por la agencia de noticias Anatolia, se afirma que dicho despliegue constituye una “nueva violación” de las obligaciones contractuales de Grecia derivadas de los Tratados de Paz de Lausana de 1923 y París de 1947.

Por su parte, la parte griega ha rechazado las acusaciones de Ankara, que son “completamente infundadas e inconsistentes con el Derecho Internacional”, han subrayado fuentes diplomáticas, según ha recogido el diario ‘Kathimerini’.

Según las mismas fuentes, el embajador griego en Ankara ha precisado que Grecia no es el país que amenaza con la guerra a su vecino, en una clara referencia a un ‘casus belli’, y tampoco ha reunido en sus costas a “la mayor flota anfibia”, como sí lo ha hecho Turquía, al tiempo que ha dicho que respeta el Tratado de Lausana.

Turquía, que ha pedido a Atenas el “fin de estas violaciones”, también habría enviado una nota de protesta a Washington, en la que solicita a la Administración Biden que tome las medidas necesarias para que Grecia cumpla su estatus de desmilitarización en las islas del Egeo.

Tras ello, el presidente de Turquía, Recep Tayyp Erdogan, ha precisado que utilizarán “todos los medios a su disposición” para defender sus derechos como nación, calificando de “juego peligroso” la postura de Atenas.

“La acumulación militar que parecen ocupar países extranjeros en toda Grecia debería, en esencia, perturbar al pueblo griego, no a nosotros”, ha dicho el mandatario turco tras una reunión con el gabinete ministerial en la capital, Ankara.

Para Erdogan, “Grecia no está a nuestro nivel. No son nuestros iguales política, económica ni militarmente”, ha añadido el dirigente turco. “Grecia tendrá que rendir cuentas por la gente que deja morir en el Mediterráneo”, ha advertido, al tiempo que ha asegurado que “estamos vigilando estrechamente las políticas” de su vecino.

Drones militares turcos habrían grabado vídeos que demostrarían que Grecia está desplegando vehículos militares blindados en islas del Egeo con estatus no militarizado, por lo que estarían incumpliendo el Tratado de Lausana.

En los vídeos se muestra el desembarco de blindados donados por Estados Unidos en las islas de Lesbos y de Samos. En concreto, se trataría de dos buques de desembarco que descargaron 23 vehículos blindados tácticos para Lesbos y otros 18 en Samos entre el 18 y el 21 de septiembre.

“Estos actos de Atenas contra el Derecho Internacional y contra el espíritu de alianza pese a los llamamientos al diálogo y la buena vecindad son inaceptables”, dijo la parte turca, según una fuente consultada por la agencia de noticias estatal.
