Harry Kane responds to Man Utd's 'difficult moment' in Champions League prediction

Harry Kane admits Manchester United are going through a “difficult moment” but still expects a tough challenge when he faces them on Wednesday.

The Red Devils lost for a third time in five Premier League games as their poor start to the season continued at the weekend. Their task isn’t about to get any easier as they prepare for a heavyweight clash in their Champions League opener away at the German champions.

Bayern have been buoyed by the signing of Kane this summer, with the striker previously linked heavily with a move to Manchester. He’s already scored several times for a team that are have won three of their four Bundesliga games and will go into the game as heavy favourites.

Kane told Sports Illustrated on what he expects: “A difficult game. I know Manchester United are having a difficult moment, but sometimes teams like that are dangerous because they’re always looking to come back in a big way. So we have to be prepared for them and of course we want to get the crowd behind us as early as possible on Wednesday in front of our home crowd and approach the game with a lot of intensity.

“The Champions League is always special and my first game with Bayern Munich will stay with me – so I hope it goes well.”

Bayern and United have a long and illustrious history in European competition. It was the German side who suffered most when Sir Alex Ferguson’s side secured their treble victory in 1999. Since then Bayern have knocked the Red Devils out at Old Trafford.

Harry Kane has slotted straight into life at Bayern

They remain a major force in Europe and are eyeing Champions League victory for the first time since 2020. Thomas Tuchel is the man steering the ship and has won the tournament with Chelsea in the past. Kane is his main attacking weapon and the striker has hailed his boss.

“He’s a really good guy and has great ideas about how we want to play and line up,” he added. “Our relationship is good and I think it will continue to develop over time as we get to know each other better. He is one of the top coaches in the world and pushes me – and all the other players – to improve.”

Bayern and United are the two teams tipped to make it out of their Champions League group and into the knockouts. The Red Devils are back at Europe’s top table after a year away and also have Galatasaray and Copenhagen for company this season as they look to make an impact.
