Three fastest growing jobs in 2024

Nearly 88% of professionals in India are considering moving jobs in 2024, shows a research from LinkedIn. This is 4% more than the number in 2023. Given this situation, what are the jobs on the rise and what can companies look at while recruiting?

Jobs on the rise

In India, closing manager, influencer marketing specialist, and design specialist are the top three fastest growing jobs in 2024. The growth rates are above 79%. Other roles include drone pilot, recruiter, creative strategist and political analyst. There is a bias towards sales jobs: sales development representative, demand generation associate, growth manager and client advisor are also in demand.

It is interesting to see that roles in design and creativity are evolving.

The study covered 1,097 professionals in full-time or part-time employment across India between November 24 and December 12. For jobs on the rise, millions of jobs started by LinkedIn members from January 1, 2019, to July 31, 2023, were looked at to calculate a growth rate for each job title; identical job titles across different seniority levels were grouped and ranked together.

Job search activity on the platform has increased by 9% in 2023 YoY, compared to 2022. People are looking for better work-life balance (42%) and higher wages (37%). They are also willing to explore new career paths with almost 8 in 10 Indian professionals saying they are looking for opportunities outside of their industry or role.

What it means for companies

Most recruiters in India are planning to grow their workforce in 2024 and are looking at learning intent and work experience. 76% of recruiters want to hire people with the exact same experience as the role they are hiring for, as compared to hiring candidates with transferable skills.

The top 5 skills that recruiters are looking for include problem-solving abilities (31%); AI skills (25%); critical thinking (22%); communication skills (21%); and IT & web skills (20%).

Companies are banking on skilling and learning programmes, growth opportunities, and flexibility as the top factors to attract and retain employees. About 59% of the organisations are planning to highlight opportunities for career advancement and skill building to attract top talent.

To provide growth opportunities for their employees in 2024, 52% of recruiters are prioritising training and development programmes, while 48% are prioritising career progression within the company. Flexible working policies are also being looked at to attract top talent.

AI impact

Amid AI-driven shifts, employers are looking for related skills, pivoting towards building AI capabilities in their workforce. Some 98% of the companies have seen changes in the skills and qualifications they seek in job candidates due to the impact of AI and automation in your industry; 54% of organisations are providing opportunities for hands-on experimentation using generative AI tools on one hand and a similar percentage of organisations are setting up new teams focused on the implementation of generative AI (such as L&D teams chief technology/AI officers).

This is also fuelling the need for upskilling and training. While professionals are bullish, they are finding it hard to keep up with the rapid change in skills required to do some jobs largely driven by the rapid developments in AI.

Nirajita Banerjee, Senior Managing Editor for LinkedIn India, says, “Indian professionals take charge of their careers in 2024, it’s going to get increasingly competitive with more professionals entering the job market. To be successful in their job hunt, it’s essential for professionals to stand out by dedicating time to spruce up their profiles, highlighting their skills, and staying informed about industry developments. This will help increase their chances of finding the job they want and develop skills needed to build a career with staying power.”
