Could former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly be heading back to the NFL after six seasons as UCLA’s head coach?

Per The Ringer’s Benjamin Solak, the Seattle Seahawks interviewed Kelly on Tuesday night for their offensive coordinator position.

Before his six seasons with the Bruins (2018-present), Kelly began his head-coaching career with Oregon (2009-12), then headed to the NFL to coach the Eagles (2013-15) and San Francisco 49ers (2016).

The 60-year-old head coach has been elite at the college level, highlighted by two Pac-10 Coach of the Year honors, three Pac-10/Pac-12 championships and a combined record of 81-41 (46-7 with Oregon).

Despite flourishing in the NCAA, the two-time NFL head coach struggled to find success in the pros. In his three years with the Eagles, Kelly went 26-22 with one playoff appearance. In his most recent NFL stint, Kelly went 2-14 with the 49ers.

The renowned offensive mastermind may have an opportunity to return to the league but in a role that is much more viable for NFL teams: offensive coordinator.

The Seahawks, plagued by inconsistency under former offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, would be a good fit for Kelly and his unique schemes. Seattle recently hired former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald as head coach.

However, the Seahawks aren’t the first team to have shown interest in Kelly. According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, the Las Vegas Raiders held at least two interviews with Kelly for an offensive coordinator role. Additionally, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reported Kelly was a “potential candidate” as OC for the Washington Commanders, who hired former Arizona Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury for the position instead.

Nothing has been finalized between Kelly and Seattle, but with how aggressive general manager John Schneider has been in his coaching hunt, an agreement could be on the horizon.
