‘I feel sorry for us’ – Kaizer Chiefs youngster on the club struggles

Kaizer Chiefs young midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala has touched on the club’s struggles this season.

The 20-year-old revealed the pressure is on Amakhosi to deliver in their final six games but said pressure was a privilege. The Soweto Giants have only won one game this year and are desperate to get back to winning ways. They face SuperSport United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Kaizer Chiefs youngster has admitted to the struggles and says it hasn’t been an easy season for the Glamour Boys.

“As young players at Chiefs, I feel sorry for us because it is not easy; it’s tough,” Shabalala told the media.

“Every one bad game, we are bad players.”

Shabalala and his fellow youngster Mfundo Vilakazi have been the players to watch at Chiefs this season. Both of them have played together for years even before wearing the famous green and gold colours.

Kaizer Chiefs’ struggles this season tough on players

“I started playing with Mfundo at kasi [township]; we were playing in the Siphiwe Tshabalala Foundation Tournament; that’s where I saw Mfundo play; we met there and connected, and our relationship started there,” he said.

“I always talk to him [Vilakazi] and tell him that ‘it may not be now, but one day, it [success at Chiefs] is going to happen, just keep on growing, keep on grinding because he is a good player’.

“We know that we are good players; it is just that we are not fortunate enough, and things are not going our way, but one day, people will be talking a different story about us,” he said as per FARPost.

Kaizer Chiefs struggles are far from over this season. On Saturday, they host a struggling Matsatsantsa who are looking for a rare win. The pressure is mounting for Amakhosi coach interim manager Cavin Johnson. The 65-year-old might even get replaced before the season ends due to pressure from fans.

Amakhosi still have Sundowns to play next week Thursday

Amakhosi will end the current season empty-handed having already missed out on the MTN8, Carling Knockout, and Nedbank Cup. The Soweto Giants are eyeing a top-three finish to play continental football next season. That however looks out of reach as the battle for a top-eight finish is a reality for struggling Kaizer Chiefs.

After the SuperSport game, Chiefs will host log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns in a league clash on 2 May.
