Tyler Myers Calls Out Officials After Canucks 4-2 Loss to Jets

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers was unhappy with the officials after tonight’s 4-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets.

“It’s also tough when you’re battling. You know, the first hit of the game is not a penalty, and he calls it a penalty because I’m a bigger guy,” Myers said postgame. “You know, it felt like we were battling two teams tonight. It’s unfortunate, but we’ll look to come out on our road trip with a good effort and keep what we have going.”

Although each team had four powerplays, there were a lot of seemingly missed calls.

There is also the case to be made for incorrect calls. Phill Di Giuseppe got called for an instigating penalty when he took his gloves off second.

Myers’ frustration doesn’t take away from the fact that the Canucks allowed two powerplay goals.

Head coach Rick Tocchet kept his opinions of the refs to himself but told the media postgame that he would’ve given them a proper assessment if he was still on TNT.

“There’s some hits there. I’m not going to question them like when Myers got the penalty right away, I thought, okay, so anybody who gets hit in the head. Like I put the Lowry, listen, we could sit here all night and pick and choose,” Tocchet said. “You know, if I was on TNT right now, I could give you what I thought about the refs but I’m not. I’m a head coach. I think the refs are great. It’s a hard job, man. These guys do a hell of a job. It’s tough. Every night, and there’s a lot, especially these types of games, there’s a lot of action. So you know they’re human too.”

The Jets were called for one embellishment penalty, Mark Scheifele, but they likely should’ve been called for more, as Neal Pionk also threw his head back without reason.

The Canucks hit the road for three games with a chance to get back in the win column on Monday against the Minnesota Wild.
