Gardaí in Monaghan have issued a public appeal for information to track down thieves who left a farmer at “significant financial loss” following the theft of several cattle from a farm oustide Castleblayney.
Detectives are anxious to speak to members of the public who noticed anything untoward in the Cullentraghbane area of Lisdoonan between Castleblayney and Carrickmacross over the course of January 30 and January 31 when the incident is reported to have taken place.
In a post on social media, a spokesperson for the Cavan-Monaghan Garda Division said the investigation was very much reliant on input from the wider public.
“Detectives are looking for the public’s assistance” said the spokesperson.
“Did you see anything suspicious ? Did you notice anyone moving cattle. Have you dashcam footage that may assist. This theft has caused a significant financial loss to the farmer.”
Meanwhile, a spokesperson from the Garda Press Office said investigating officers were working on the premise the incident took place last Tuesday (January 30) morning.
“Gardaí received report of an incident of theft that occurred at approximately 9am on the 30th of January 2024 in the Laragh area of Castleblayney, Co Monaghan.
“A number of livestock were taken in the course of this incident.
“No arrests have been made. Investigations are ongoing.”
