new asda store to open in louth as part of mammoth nationwide rollout

Asda will officially open a new store at the petrol station in Newmarket, Louth.

A new Asda convenience store and petrol station is to open in Louth next week.

The Asda Express store will open at the filling station at 65 Newmarket. It is one of 110 new stores being opened around the country in February, which Asda says is a record number for a single month.

Asda branding is due to go up on Monday, with the store officially opening on Tuesday (February 13). It currently operates under the SPAR Euro Garage brand.

Last year, Asda took over around 350 forecourts from its sister firm EG Group in a deal worth £2.27bn. EG was founded by the Issa brothers, who acquired Asda in 2001.

The supermarket giant said its Asda Express stores stocked up to 3,000 branded and own-label products “to suit a broad range of customer needs”, from “top-up” shops to “grabbing lunch on the go or cooking dinner from scratch”. According to Asda, prices will be around 15 per cent less than during the SPAR EG days.

New openings in February are set to see Asda pass the 1,000 stores landmark for the first time in its 58-year history, as it attempts to overtake Sainsbury’s as Britain’s second largest grocer. Andy Perry, Asda’s vice president of convenience, said: “Asda’s significant investment in building a nationwide chain of convenience stores is a key component of our long-term strategy to become the number two player in UK grocery.

“February is a transformational month for programme with a record number of store openings and conversion of all former Co-op sites to Asda Express sites. The teams have worked at pace to reach this point and we look forward to bringing Asda’s quality and low prices to many more communities across the UK.”
