Connie the container dog! Miraculous moment Coast Guard inspectors save dog trapped in a Texas shipping crate for EIGHT DAYS in 75F temperatures

Coast Guard inspectors have rescued a bedraggled pooch nicknamed ‘Connie the Container Dog’ from a shipping crate after she was stranded without food or water for at least eight days.

Video posted to the Coast Guard’s official Facebook page pans across a tower of shipping containers stacked tens of feet in the air.

‘Oh, it’s scratching, dude,’ one of the marine inspectors remarks in the footage, recorded Wednesday morning at the Bayport Terminal at the Port of Houston.

The inspectors peer inside the container after it is lowered to the ground – and to their surprise, a furry snout pokes out.

Officials later determined that Connie had been trapped inside for at least eight days without food and water. On the day of her discovery, temperatures soared to a high of 75 degrees Fahrenheit.

The dog was grimy and ‘definitely pretty skinny,’ according to Ryan McMahon, a petty officer second class.

He was part of the team from Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston – along with petty officers Bryan Qainscott, Lucas Loe and Jose Reyes – who heard barking and stopped the container from being loaded onto a cargo ship.

‘As soon as we opened it, we could see the little dog’s face poking out. She was right there, like she knew we were going to be there to open it for her,’ McMahon said.

‘And she just, she wasn’t scared or anything. She just seemed happy more than anything, to be out of that dark space and in the arms of people that were going to take care of her.’

The men drove Connie to Pasadena Animal Shelter in suburban Houston.

Connie was subsequently flown to Forever Changed Animal Rescue to undergo a veterinary evaluation

The shelter posted an update to Facebook the following day, writing: ‘This beautiful girl was trapped in the container for at least a week. She was tired, hungry, and very happy to be rescued.

‘Let’s salute the heroes who not only safeguard our waters but also rescue precious souls in need.’

Connie was then flown to Forever Changed Animal Rescue by Pilots N Paws, a volunteer-led nonprofit.

Following a veterinary evaluation, the animal rescue shared on social media that she was a bit underweight and tested positive for heartworm.

‘Connie will initially be placed locally in the DMV in the home of our Founder/Director and Veterinarian Andrea Deoudes where we can learn more about her to ensure she is adopted into the best home possible,’ the group wrote.

Spokeswoman Chief Petty Officer Corinne Zilnicki said Connie was likely sitting inside a car in a junkyard. ‘And that’s how she accidentally got put in the container,’ Zilnicki explained.

The serendipitous rescue occurred just in time.

‘It would take at least another week to get to where she was going and two weeks without food or water. I don´t think she would have made it,’ McMahon said.

The inspectors considered adopting Connie themselves before concluding it wasn’t the right time for any of them.

‘We know with all this, she´s going to go to a good home where they love her and take care of her,’ McMahon said.
