Kyiv will work with the president of the United States chosen by the American people, including Donald Trump. Ukraine has to thank him for providing Javelin missiles, according to the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States, Oksana Markarova, Bloomberg reports.
Responding to the question of what Ukraine will do if former President Donald Trump is re-elected this year, Markarova replied that Ukraine had to thank him for providing Javelin missiles during his administration.
“It’s a democracy — we will work with the president that the American people will elect,” she said. “The fight for freedom, the fight for independence, fight for democracy and the values that we share — it has been, and we will work very hard to have it be, bipartisan. It’s an all-American issue.”
Markarova added that Ukraine “have to do everything possible in order for the U.S. to stay strong and continue supporting us.”
U.S. elections
The presidential elections in the United States are scheduled for November 5, 2024. According to forecasts, the main Democratic candidate will be the current American leader, Joe Biden. Among the Republicans, apart from Donald Trump, former U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley is a favorite.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that there would be a different policy towards Ukraine under former U.S. President Donald Trump if he wins in the upcoming elections. At the same time, the Ukrainian president is convinced of further support from the United States in case of Trump’s victory.
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov states that it will not be a tragedy for Ukraine if Donald Trump is elected President of the United States. Ukraine will exist independently regardless of who the American president is.
