How Kaizer Chiefs can save R2 Million a month with two easy steps

Kaizer Chiefs have some tinkering to do on their balance sheet. It all starts with overpaid, underperforming playing personnel.

KAIZER CHIEFS TOP EARNERS PER MONTH

  • Keagan Dolly – R1,4 Million
  • Itumeleng Khune – R480,000
  • Zitha Kwinika – R370,000
  • Ashley du Preez – R300,000
  • Yusuf Maart – R300,000

It’s easy to envisage a situation where Khune and Dolly are no longer Chiefs players next season. That illustrates a level of money mismanagement by the club but also reveals an opportunity for them to considerably trim the wage bill as neither player has been an integral part of the starting XI for the last two campaigns. Taking R1.9 Million off their monthly costs frees up funds to find players who fit the club culture. Dolly has played just six times in the league this season, with no goals and just a solitary assist to speak of. Is that good enough? Since he arrived in July 2021, the former Montpellier man has made just 66 appearances.

SUNDOWNS MAKE THEIR MOVE FOR CAMPBELL

18-year-old SuperSport United winger Shandre Campbell, who’s enjoying his breakthrough season, has directly contributed to five goals in 11 DStv Prem appearances this term, the highlight being a brace and match-winning display against Orlando Pirates back in December. According to SoccerLaduma, the country’s ‘Big 3’ is taking notice. Sundowns are reportedly ahead of Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in the queue to sign the promising youngster.
