Manchester United have submitted an opening bid of around £14.3million for Barcelona star Sergino Dest, though the Catalans are holding out for closer to £17m.

Erik ten Hag is keen to bolster in full-back areas and he’s already added Tyrell Malacia to his ranks to compete with Luke Shaw.

At right-back, Diogo Dalot has started the first two games of the season ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and the former Crystal Palace man could return to the Eagles before the transfer window closes.

Dest, a former Ajax player, has been put up for sale for Barcelona as the club desperately seek to raise funds after their spending so far this summer.

According to Sport, discussions are already well underway between Barcelona dn United over Dest.

It’s claimed United have offered an initial bid in the region of £14.3m but Barcelona are holding out for slightly more.

Barcelona want just under £17m and the two clubs have discussed the option of Dest going to Old Trafford on loan, with a deal including an obligation to buy.

It comes at a difficult moment for United, who have lost their opening two Premier League matches.

The Red Devils face Liverpool at Old Trafford on Monday, when supporters have planned a protest against the club’s owners.

United are desperately trying to make signings before that game, with Ten Hag keen to add as many as five new players to his squad before the window closes.

Ten Hag wants two midfielders, at least one attacker and a full-back following the side’s disastrous start to the season.

Antony, the Ajax winger, is a priority target while the club remain in the hunt for Frenkie de Jong.

United are willing to let Cristiano Ronaldo leave provided they can find a replacement.
