SUBANG JAYA: Many Malaysians who have studied in New Zealand have returned home to use their skills and knowledge as experts in their fields, says the country’s High Commissioner to Malaysia.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Star Education Fair 2022 and the myStarJob Fair 2022, Pam Dunn said that Tan Sri Dr Mazlan Othman is an example of one such Malaysian.

“She was the first Malaysian woman to gain a PhD at Otago University. She then returned home as Malaysia’s first astrophysicist and later pioneered this country’s space programme,” said Dunn.

Dunn added that an education in New Zealand empowers Malaysian students with the life skills and confidence to succeed.

“I believe we will continue seeing many more future Malaysian leaders returning with that same experience,” she said.

Education New Zealand and eight of their university representatives will be present for the first time at the fair to share with students about the upcoming intakes and requirements to study in the country.

Education New Zealand director (International Marketing Strategies) Patrick Holden said New Zealand offers high quality education.

“The New Zealand government has strong quality assurance systems in place to ensure we are delivering the highest quality education,” he said.

Many other top education institutions from Malaysia and abroad are gathered at the fair to answer questions on tertiary education.

The other big exhibitors are City University Malaysia, Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) and KPJ Healthcare University College.

Students and jobseekers began turning up in the morning, eager to look for education options and career opportunities on offer at the two-day event.

Star Media Group events senior general manager Corinne Chieng said the Star Education Fair 2022 and the myStarJob Fair 2022 provide a one-stop venue for students and working adults.

“The Star Education Fair serves as a one-stop centre for school leavers in search of their dream course. On the other hand, MyStarJob Fair serves as an all-in-one hiring solution specially curated for both job seekers and employers,” she said.

The Star Education Fair 2022 and myStarJob Fair 2022 are held from 11am to 7pm today and tomorrow at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre.
