President of the United States, Joe Biden, accused the US Congress of inaction and the withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Avdiivka during a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, according to the White House.

The President of the United States stated that congressional inaction has led to the first noticeable successes of Russian forces.

“This morning, Ukraine’s military was forced to withdraw from Avdiivka after Ukrainian soldiers had to ration ammunition due to dwindling supplies as a result of congressional inaction, resulting in Russia’s first notable gains in months,” Biden said.

Biden calls on Congress to promptly pass a bill for additional funding for national security to replenish the supplies of Ukrainian forces.

The US President also emphasized the need to impose sanctions on the Russian government to hold it accountable for its actions.

United States assistance to Ukraine

Last year, US President Joe Biden requested Congress to allocate over $100 billion in aid for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, as well as for securing the American border.

Republicans demanded tougher measures regarding border security and therefore did not support the initiative. Consequently, assistance to Ukraine became contingent on the position of members of the Republican Party.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the US financial package is crucial for Ukraine, and the country has no alternative.

It has also been revealed that the US House of Representatives will not vote on aid to Ukraine until mid-March at the earliest.
