sit report identifies 13,000 illegal madarsas in up, recommends shutdown
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Thursday submitted a report to the Uttar Pradesh government, recommending the closure of approximately 13,000 madarsas in the state. The SIT found these madarsas to be operating illegally and unable to account for their sources of funding.
Most of these institutions are situated near the Nepal border, particularly in districts like Maharajganj, Shravasti, and Bahraich.
The SIT conducted an investigation into the funding of these madarsas, revealing a lack of transparency in their financial records.
Each of the mentioned districts, including Maharajganj, Shravasti, and Bahraich, has approximately 500 such madarsas, with additional institutions in neighbouring districts.
Following the SIT report, the Madarsa Board is expected to take necessary actions against these madarsas that have been identified as operating illegally.
The UP government had last year formed SIT to probe the funds received from abroad by madarsas in the state.
