Labour calls for urgent action on violence against women

I feel that people become desensitized to violence against women and girls. We saw an awful attack in Bradford, with a young mum pushing a pram being killed in broad daylight and two police forces referring themselves to the independent complaints process as a result. We hoped would be taken after Sarah Everard’s murder still hasn’t been on police standards. Action we hoped would take place to reform the system after running Uda’s murder still hasn’t happened. This isn’t good enough is enough. We need huge mission to tackle violence against women and girls. We need leadership from the government. That’s what Labour will provide. Repeated, appalling attacks on women and girls and yet too little action is taken. We seem to hear the same warnings, the same failings in policing and the criminal justice system time and time again. Was killed when she called 9994 times on the night she was killed. There still hasn’t been urgent action taken by the government and that’s why Labour is saying we need a mission to halve violence against women and girls over the next 10 years. Including urgent action to overhaul policing and criminal justice system, things like the domestic abuse specialists in 999 control centres, so that we get that action to save women’s lives.
