Why Bafana Bafana’s Percy Tau took another penalty

Bafana Bafana supporters could not believe it. Percy Tau stepped up to take another penalty after a damaging miss against Mali.

PERCY TAU MISSES BAFANA BAFANA PENALTY AGAINST MALI AT AFCON 2023

It was on a Tuesday night last week. Percy Tau flew his spot-kick over the goals. Mali responded with two goals that left Bafana with zero points.

COURAGE AGAINST NAMIBIA

Sunday evening delivered a deja vu moment. Bafana won a penalty against Namibia and Tau was up to take it.

According to the 29-year-old from Mpumalanga’s Emalahleni, his teammates and his own experience gave him confidence.

“They were disappointed because they thought I was going to score, so it was not nice, they gave me the responsibility,” said Tau via iDiskiTimes.

“When I missed, it was like; ‘ah you could have scored that one’ – it could have changed the game, but they understand these things happen, it’s football.

“I’ve been playing for my country for some time now, I feel like I’ve given so much more than the missed penalty. I didn’t think twice about taking this penalty, it’s nice also to be able to rectify the mistakes.”
