Polyunsaturated fats, omega 6 but primarily omega 3 can play an important role in lowering total and low density cholesterol. High density cholesterol on the other hand is not effected by any dietary intake but can be improved by regular exercise. Your triglyceride levels, which forms part of your regular lipid profile, is effected by refined carbohydrates; therefore it is essential to consume this in moderation. This is specifically important for those with a high risk of developing high cholesterol or with a family history of hypercholesterolemia.
