Announced today, the follow-up to the 2011 released skating simulator Pocket Halfpipe has finally been revealed. Pocket Skate is due out this Thursday, and will feature a ton of brand new content as well as improved controls and other quality-of-life buffs that the development team has worked on in those 11 years.
Pocket Halfpipe had a very distinct style to it and has remained one of those legendary mobile classics, up there with the likes of Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja as a permanent touchstone in the legacy of mobile gaming. While it did end up being removed from the App Store in those years, those who got to experience it back then had only positive things to say.
And with thrilling gameplay that allowed you to really skate your heart out condensed into a mobile game, what wasn’t to love? Of course, Pocket Halfpipe was primarily focused on, well, halfpipe skating. Pocket Skate on the other hand is a full-blown skate sim, allowing you to skate through a ton of really stylish and sleek environments alongside a huge new suite of tricks and moves to pull off.
With a top-down point-of-view and a semi-realistic but still animated art style, the visuals in this one are extremely pleasing to the eyes as well. Combine that with watching your customizable avatar perform all those really cool tricks and you’ve got a winning recipe for a really engaging mobile skating game, which is a decently untapped market in the first place.
Pocket Skate is set to launch this coming Thursday, which as of the time of writing this, is only two days away! For those of us who missed the days of skating games and have desired a way to experience those thrills in our pocket, this is for sure one to keep an eye out for. While the iOS version has a set release date, the Android version is currently only planned to launch at a later date, so stay tuned for updates on that announcement!
